The Short of It: Brief Prose Forms

with Chris Fink

Saturday, June 5
9:30 – 11 am (CDT)
on Zoom

Editors love very short stories and essays. They make perfect palette cleansers to nestle between longer works. This workshop explores the short of it. What are the key elements of the flash forms? What makes them stick with us? We’ll read and discuss several masterworks in these forms and try our hands at composing on the spot. Of course it takes discipline to be brief. As Thoreau said of writing, “It will take a long while to make it short.”
