The Moving Pens Writers’ Group

MCW writers

Members of the inaugural Moving Pens group dig into a warm-up prompt.

Facilitated by Kim Suhr, MFA

Part writing prompts, part critique group: participants will get a jumpstart on their work and receive feedback to take it to the next level. Held at The Medical College of Wisconsin in collaboration with the MCW Medical Humanities Program.

KIM SUHR, MFA is the author of Maybe I’ll Learn: Snapshots of a Novice Mom and director of Red Oak Writing. Her work has appeared in various journals, most recently at Literally Stories,  Midwest Review, the Stonecoast Review and Solstice Lit, as well as in the anthology, Family Stories from the Attic (Hidden Timber Books, 2017). You can listen to Kim read her work at WUWM 89.7 on the Lake Effect Program. Teachers Are Writers: A Roundtable Offer for You

You spend the school year supporting your students’ writing, but what about your own? Summer is a perfect time to listen to the voice that is calling you to get those words onto the page, and Red Oak wants to give you the boost you need to make it happen in our Writers’ Roundtables.

You will learn from hearing others’ reactions to your work and from providing feedback in return. These facilitated critique groups are designed to support you as you work on projects and build a network of writing colleagues.  Participants come with an open mind and a generous “we’re in this together” spirit.

 

Roundtables meet at the Oconomowoc Library, 200 W South St ~ 12 noon – 2:30 pm

Monday afternoons: June 22, July 13, August 3 & 17

KIM SUHR

KIM is the author of Maybe I’ll Learn: Snapshots of a Novice Mom and director of Red Oak Writing. ROBERT VAUGHAN

Robert Vaughan has lead the Friday morning roundtable for over ten years. In addition, he teaches workshops in hybrid writing, poetry, fiction, and hike/ write. He has facilitated these at locations like Red Oak Writing, Alverno College, UWM, Fox Valley Technical School, JMWW (online), The Clearing and Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos. He was a finalist for the Gertrude Stein Award for Fiction twice (2013, 2014). His short fiction, ‘A Box’ will appear in the Best Small Fictions 2016 (Queen’s Ferry Press). Vaughan is the author of four books: Microtones (Cervena Barva Press, 2012); Diptychs + Triptychs + Lipsticks + Dipshits (Deadly Chaps, 2013); Addicts & Basements (CCM, 2014). His newest, RIFT, is a flash fiction collection co-authored with Kathy Fish (Unknown Press, 2015). He blogs at www.robert-vaughan.com.

The roundtables are critique groups designed to support you as you work on projects and continue developing the craft. Our experienced leaders are published writers who are also actively pursuing their own writing goals. They are committed to helping you reach your writing dreams — big project or small — fiction, nonfiction, plays or poetry.

Red Oak roundtable groups are appropriate for dedicated writers willing to share their work with a group to receive feedback, share ideas and build a network of writing friends.
